In addition, there are times that the death of others is a relief for them. One of the things my lightie believes is that undead are suffering, trying to escape this life for the peace of afterlife. Killing their physical body is not "death" since they have already died, but a freedom from pain and agony of not being able to act on their own. There is no way to kill something already dead. And the undead often bring death and disease to those they come into contact with.

Also, you can stun ones who are harmful to others.

In general, my character doesn't go with groups to harm others. Though she will sometimes release the undead from their pain, or protect a friend from an attack (like from a lion).

It really depends on your faith, your personal beliefs, and what you find works for your character.

It is absolutely possible to play a peaceful character in Shattered Kingdoms. You can level all the way to grand master without killing, or even fighting a single opponent - though the latter would be difficult and time-consuming.

Due to the ability to be enlightened with experience for your roleplaying ability rather than your ability to hack and slash a large number of NPCs, the mud caters toward a more peace-loving set of characters as well as to hardened war veterans.

It is also possible to make money as a new character without killing monsters. In fact, it's usually easier. Preach your values and rely on the pockets of those looking for absolution to line your coffers, it certainly can't hurt. Once you reach a lower-mid level, you can make money buy finding valuable gems and selling them at shops.

Even for a promising roleplayer like Leri, who clearly appears to know how to RP his way out, enlightenments cannot provide a true leveling resource but a fair share of aid; Especially at lvls near grandmaster status.

As I mentioned in the past, it would of been nice for those enlights to provide enough XP for leveling but it could turn out to be a tool of abuse.
Maybe Dulrik someday will find the time to come down with some sort of fraction to determine different values of XP awarded for a single enlight, based on the mean time required for the player to aquire that amount of XP via killing NPCs or cast spells.

Thanks for all the advice - sounds like this could be really interesting to try!

I have a few aspects I'm uncertain of though... With a character that refuses to inflict death, can you think of a rp reason to go with hunting groups, even if it's just to heal? Wouldn't her beliefs require her to try to stop the killing, and heal the creature while fighting? I'm trying to patch together a 'doable' argument and finding it a bit hard... Fighting to stun could be done in settings where sparing/practice can be roleplayed... but unless its for the purpose of pain and suffering (which it wont be if she is from Ayamao), why would she fight in the first place?

Just a brainstorm with a few holes in it... Would appreciate any creative input someone might be able/willing to give. :)

For my concept atleast, there is no way he would go with a group to hurt others, he would be completly horrified by the violence that is being done around him. If he went it would be to follow and try and talk them out of it.

Your best bet is a priest/mage/bard. Im not sure if priests or mages get the first utility spell that you can get exp off of, but my guess is mages. And if you start in ayamao you should be able to slowly make coin even if you dont get exp.

SKs actually does not cater to complete pacifists at all. In the scale of ease of leveling for those who are completely fine with violence being a 6 out of 10 (it's not particularly hard to level up to GM with patience, no matter how boring it might be), pacifists have a 0,1.

The only way this can change is for passive exp to come up, or the entire leveling system to change by depending solely on increasing your skills. (And not necessary all of them)

Going without combat at all is a bit different, but still possible if you are a caster. Priests have the best chance of doing it, since the XP they get for healing spells is directly related to the amount of damage you heal. Quests can help the whole way, and if you start in Ayamao, even as a newbie. (I've always wanted there to be Ayamao-like quests in every starting city, but it doesn't seem to have happened...) Rewards can't be counted on, but do help fill in the gaps. At the high end, mentorship can now provide a decent amount of XP as well as extra training points.

Zhenshi also provides a couple quests that only newbies can do, so thats another place a non-violent character could make do in, not to mention there are several quests through out Zhenshi near Nerina that could give a young character a decent start if they wish to be non-violent.

Also Leri, be careful what you say or how you act infront of some people. Even the slightest comment could bring PK to your character even if you didn't want it, not to forget there are occasions young characters can get caught up in the crossfire when a city is attacked.

As for getting money, sell things you find in the bins in the cities, or simply ask people for some money you'd be suprised how many people will just hand it over.

Thanks so much for all the help and hints and guidance - really appreciate it! I guess the only way I can figure out if I can do this is to jump into it hehe.

About the PK - Thanks for the warning and yeah, I can see from some of the logs on the boards here that the munch munch is swift and brutal in some cases hehe. I don't mind the killing all that much, as long as at least very basic roleplay giving some sort of context precedes or follows it.

(I can take that much more than the random nastyness distributed with wide hand on here. Whats up with that - I thought it was only allowed in the general discussions forum, which I avoid for that very reason? :-? ) Sorry - completely off topic, just baffled me.

Again, lots and lots of thanks! :D

If you're only concerned with actually killing, but don't mind stunning, it shouldn't be too hard. I think you can take money off of stunned opponents, too. However, if you don't ever want to fight, that would be difficult.

It was partially mentioned in passing, but not completely. In the Collegium of Taslamar, if you defeat your opponent, ie stun them, they are taken away and healed. You do not actually kill them.

(Disclaimer: You may wish to kill them as they like to spit on people and call them fools.)
