I've reported this too. If you want to make it work, and I don't think I'm giving away IC info when I say this, you have to get ALL the things he will need first. Before you go in and try you must have all that he asks for first and then give him the stuff real slow.

That's the way it works for me anway.

Yes, but any script should be able to anticipate reasonable stuff-ups and let the character know. I think I can tweak the script to cater for such mistakes and nudge folks in the right direction.

So, you're saying that I have to know how to complete the quest before I start it.
Code:
>help multiplay
...
  3.  USING INFO GAINED BY ONE CHARACTER WHEN PLAYING ANOTHER CHARACTER is
multiplaying.  You are NOT allowed to transfer information between characters
any more than you may transfer physical things.  This also prohibits the
recreation of a character with the same name and/or memories as a prior char.

This is a wholly separate issue, but I believe that this happens a lot more often than people realize. Now I myself have only played one character in my entire term of SK (unless you count a sprite sorcerer with asthmatic con - deleted after he was owned by a few snakes). But I have a feeling that my subsequent characters will suffer this same problem. Mark that: this is not a solution; it's another problem entirely.

My major current problem was that the item I was trying to give the NPC in response to the quest he simply stocked in his inventory: every time. Regardless of how nicely I asked, and responded to the key words. In general, it seems that merchants who do anything besides sit in place and sell goods still have a bit of tweaking to be done.

The quest NPC in question should have "eaten" the trigger object. No question about that. The fact that it puts it into its "sale" inventory is a bug.

In fact, as I recall correctly, anything you give this NPC, if it doesn't recognize it, it should drop... I remember revising this script myself last summer and seemed to remember that it worked fine after that (although I'll readily admit I may be wrong).

So, I wonder if something was done to it recently. Or maybe I didn't do as good as job with it as I had thought...

[Edit: The other thing, and I just thought of this as pertaining to something Orac said, is that if you give a NPC too many things all at once won't register. There is a bit of a lag for "gets" triggers. So if something had just been given to the NPC, it may have been lagged from the previous trigger and not realized it had picked up something new.]

Doing quests you have learned before is not Multiplay. If that's your definition of multiplay then anyone who has played this game for more then a year should be sitebanned. There is a difference betweene multiplaying information and having experience with the game.

Sharing info between characters multiplay would be being in the Harlequins finding out who all is in them then killing them with the adepts as an alt or telling enemies of the harlequins who is in them as an alt.

If your character can gather every single item needed to complete that quest and not even know that he is supposed to gather them, as in he has not fully talked to the NPC one session at a time, then how else do you explain it? You took information that you have obtained with a previous character and have used it on this character. You shared information between two different characters and that is multiplaying.

This would be the same as if you managed to find the quest information on a twink site and decided to use that. If it could be proved that you did that then it is cheating and you would subsequently be punished in my opinion.

I explain it that he asked around about the brotherhood of sage ICly and they told him about the shopkeeper and what he would want to join so he went in to talked to him.

You're right, it used to do this. However, it was still buggy, and I remember watching someone repeatedly give him the item and having him drop it repeatedly.

Just because they haven't talked to the NPC doesn't necessitate that they haven't learned ICly. There are several quests that, when newbies ask me for help, I tell them to fetch the quest item before talking to the NPCs just to save time.
