I don't think OOC leaks are such the huge problem they're made out to be, but even if they are, the solution is not to code ways for cabal members to distance themselves from each other. It makes no IC sense to be hiding from your own organization - in fact, as a cabal leader I would promptly kick out or tarnish anyone who randomly used cb name or cabal anonymous. Anyone who wants to play secret agent can simply tell the rest of their cabal that they're undercover, and then deal with the IC possibility of getting found out because some cabal mate let slip your affiliations.
Hiding from your own cabal because you're afraid of OOC leaks is an excessively paranoid move that harms the group's cohesion.
That being said, I think coded anonymous members can help the game - not as an OOC anti-leak device, but as a way to help CRS and anonymity live with each other. My suggestion would be to code things as follows:
- All new inductees start out as "anonymous". While in this state, they don't see the cabal who list, they can't access the cabal channel, and they can't learn any cabal powers (perhaps with the exception of cabal cipher). The only thing they get is the RP that comes with being a part of the cabal, and only the leaders will know that they're members at this point.
- A member may choose to reveal himself to the rest of the cabal at any time, gaining full access to the who list, cabal channel, and cabal powers. However, this action is irreversible: you cannot unreveal yourself once you make yourself known.
- Anonymous cabal members are not counted in CRS defender calculations. So secret agents and lowbie characters can stay online during raids without worrying that they're helping their cabal lose.
- Cb names and leader/member tags on the cabal channel will not be implemented at all. Again, there is no reason for cabal members to mask themselves from each other.
This needs a lot of refining, I'm sure, but I think it's a better focus for anonymity than OOC leak concerns.
