The way it is done now, is the rarity of the symbol places a big importance on the symbol. I have had characters go to jail and die many times just to get my symbol back. The symbols allow you to get into a few special places in the game with awesome stuff. Limiting the number of symbols keep Hoarders like peso
from getting all of this stuff.
Yeah, that's great - big importance on the symbol, why again? Because there are some locked away areas that you need a symbol to get in to? What's in those areas? Sacred armor already hoarded by someone?
Or is it because the symbol has +3 mana on it?
Oh wait, I know.. it's because they have twinked out symbol powers on them, right?.
Why can people who aren't in the religion even get to those so uber leet faithful only places? Symbol stats already don't work for people who aren't invested in the faith, so it can't be that. A simple flag check could prevent non faithful from even using the symbol - or getting some serious smiting from their god should they try to use it.
No, I'm pretty sure the problem here is poor design, and a half-assed attempt at covering it up. The people who suffer from it are the people who shouldn't.
If you wanted to prevent people from wearing or having symbols they shouldn't have you would think that you would design the symbols to suit that need, rather than just removing them all together.
You shouldn't have to go to jail or die multiple times just to get a symbol for your religion back. What, just so you can get junked by someone and go a week or longer with out a symbol? It is easier to get any number of better enchanted items for your character than a meager +3 enchanted symbol. That is insane, and it makes staying religion less far more appealing than even bothering. Creating false demand for an item that players can create is ridiculous.
Impossible to get symbol with a meager stat bonus, or spirit aura on demand?
God willing some day on SK nobody will play priests - and we will all be screwed.
