I prefer the new PAR system for various reasons, top reason being that the people who RP and are rewarded the most, get it instead of most enlightened of each class.

I remember in the past, having a char with like 30 rewards who could not get par in his class, since a more long-lived char held it, and I could not reach him till he age died. And at the same time I remember people with as little as 4 -7 enlights getting it in their class due to spot being empty.

All in all, the new system, does reward the ones that Roleplay the most and put effort into it, regardless of class and such OOC limitations.

As far as knowing the "in" people in order to get it, or jerk circles I can assure you such is valid up to a point, but not always valid as Juggs also mentioned. Take my priest for example, Elriorith. She cannot be considered an "in" person at least IMO, and she certainly in my book does not belong to the jerk-circle if I understand what you refer to as such. Still she got PAR, even so late in her life.

All in all, I prefer PAR system as it is now, where regardless of class, the most rewarded roleplayers become PARs.

The argument I get into people with off-forums usually revolves around ninja-enlights. I often feel like a PAR is just trying to cling to their status by meeting their hourly and reward quotas. The PAR flag doesn't shuffle around to more active players nearly as often as it should.

I'd like to see total hours played somehow worked into the equation for PAR flags. I'd rather have someone with 10 rewards and 150 hours in a month get PAR over a character with 45 rewards, but barely meets 30 hours a month.

A reminder to anyone who thinks that PAR is not a wet, groaning, incestuous orgy:

Alifer got PAR.

We are talking about the generalizations we make based on perceptions of the current system. For every generalization I'm sure we can all make an exception here or there, including your Alifer example up there.

I still stand by my idea. I'd like to see paragon character activity made a factor in the actual score used to determine the flag carriers, and not just a 'pass or fail' requisite for keeping the flags. I'm tired of a few of these paragons claiming they play alts to ninja-enlight and play their paragon mains part-time. If alts end up taking more of the player's time then their main, then that character is no longer a main is it? I also stand by the attitude that an active, visible paragon is more helpful to the game than some secret, ninja alt for a paragon player. It promotes grand-standing, which I feel is a good thing despite whatever qualms paragons and Imms may have about it. I also feel like a paragon is doing their job and deserving of their status if I can actually see them on the who list.

I'd also like to see more weight put on rewards given to players who are rewarded at a lower level. If their ambitions are to attain paragon at some point, it might actually encourage people to RP their characters before they GM. This might actually help sort out the power-players who are frequently only part-time RPers, from the hard-core RPers who are probably more deserving of the PAR flags. Werttrew's 'bard' comes to mind as an example of what I'm trying to get at.

I agree that PAR (as well as other flags) should have a bigger hours/month requirement to be kept. I have observed at least one character that's been "hoarding" the PAR flag with very few hours (at least according to what I could observe). There are indeed some things that are worth to be looked into this matter, although I still feel that the PAR flag is more a duty flag and not at all a beneficial flag. You wouldn't believe how many ppl I have seen approaching my PAR chars only to monkey-perform emotes and ArPee (which is something else than RP, ArPee in my book is when you overdo with emotes in certain occasions, but do not really care about the consistent role playing of your character). This alone is a great annoyance.

Is the character you mention a leader? Maybe he's/she's trying not to lose the leadership flag so in the same time the par flag can't be lost. The par system isn't bad. And I have faith in the imms watching how and were rewards are given.
