There is a system of points about maintaining PAR flag that is based on the number of rewards you give per month. I know the minimum/basis is 10.

No this isn't correct. Its just an hour requirement.

Unless the system changed the last year there is no chance you are right Achernar. Once I lost the flag with double the hour requirements and dozens of rewards. It can't be. There has to be something more. I also remember some time ago an ex imm saying something similar with what juggs mentioned.

The two factors which affect Paragon status as far as my knowledge: maintaining minimum hours and having the highest reward total (top 12? 13? highest characters)

I've never been aware of any other requirement.

So it is more than conceivable that one could hold PAR for a very long time without enlighting anyone? :o

I thought that you had a certain number of enlight (enlight points) for receving enlights.

Then if you say have ten and get a paragon slot...you start losing enlight points every now and then so you are less likely to keep the flag.
But, if you give out all your enlights you get more points...which makes you actually gain points by the next reset.

Meaning people with flags keep those flags as long as they keep their hours up...and no one is going to catch up to them because no one person receieves enough enlights per month to keep up with their net gain.

...well excepting all the circle jerkers.

I know you will all say that my RP just sucks. But I find it hard to believe that I've only been rewarded once by a PAR in the last year.

The system is of course biased, the very same people get it over and over. And personally I find most of those people to be pretty weak RPers really. They just do a cutesy thing with a charmed kitty and a piece of string and get a medium reward.

Do long drawn out RP that never bears fruit because of lack of IMM support and you receive exactly what you started with. Nota.

So the system is flawed, so what. I'd like to be a PAR and reward people and stuff yah, but it's not that big of a deal.

Also, props to Desdomos for being that one person to enlight me.

p.s. I'm talking about Kemilla's pfile here...I've been rewarded for the dumbest stuff with Krash and others I played, but not with the charector I consider my main RP char. I think thats the biased part. It's all what the individual player prizes in RP and currently the current set of PARs prize stupid inane bull-crap. Excepting Desdomos, I'd have rewarded him for that stuff if I could.

I often feel like a PAR is just trying to cling to their status by meeting their hourly and reward quotas.

I know players have real lives, but I often find this to be true. There have been players in the past that don't show up much for months on end, yet somehow manage to hold onto their PAR flag for a very long period of time. Maybe they're playing when I'm not (aka Greeks), but given my usually varied hours, I generally find this hard to believe.

OVT is right, the PAR system isn't perfect. It's put into the hands of players who have preferences for what they feel is good RP, and it can ignore people who are really doing something. The IMMs, no offense, are probably guilty of favoritism as well - although likely to a much smaller extent. There's only so much code can do to counter stuff like this, and I don't think the old system was a better solution.

My only real complaint, if you can call it that, is that PAR seems to be dominantly held by priests. But maybe this is better, since they're the ones that interact with people the most...

This would mean the triumph of Circle-jerking. At least now there are restrictions to the numbers of enlights a PAR can give per person, per time period etc and thus it prevents circle-jerking PARs in a decent manner. The system you propose would totally destroy such a defense.

I think the hour thing should be bumped up on PAR now, not minimum hours

I had one PAR. I chose not to enlight any in my group of friends for the first three months even though they deserved it because I wanted to avoid the semblance of impropriety.

I can say I had an idea of what sort of RP I liked and what sort I didn't. If someone walked in and slung 3-line emote after 3-line emote, they got stuck on my 'never enlight' list. I also kept a list of people I enlighted and only once did I enlight the same person twice (and that totally by accident).

I think a major reason priests get flagged more than other classes is due to the amount of RP generally required to play a priest. In my case, lots of average RP over a long period of time adds up to lots of small enlights.

And thus the ugly beast rears it's head again.

I love how these conversations keep repeating themselves and about once or twice a year, we all have to sit around and remember why things are the way they are.

Right now, the system tracks every single person that you enlight, and if it appears that you're involved in a circle jerk, you get nailed.

Anyone remember Chevan (or maybe Barith, same guy's characters) and how the immstaff cursed him to holy hell and back for allegedly abusing the PAR system? Yeah, there's safeguards.
