what it is now:
Code:
Amateur   - dagger             (very good)   flail              (not learned)
mace               (not learned) sling              (not learned)
staff              (not learned) scrolls            (not learned)
            staves             (not learned)
Novice    - meditation         (not learned)
Initiate  - crossbow           (not learned)
Apprentice- self defense       (not learned) trance             (not learned)
Journeyman- shield block       (not learned) endurance          (not learned)
Veteran   - second attack      (not learned)
Expert    - brew               (not learned)

what it should be:
Code:
Amateur   - dagger             (very good)   flail              (not learned)
mace               (not learned) sling              (not learned)
            staff              (not learned)
Novice    - meditation         (not learned) second attack      (not learned)
Initiate  - shield block       (not learned) scrolls            (not learned)
Apprentice- trance             (not learned) staves             (not learned)
Journeyman- endurance          (not learned)
Veteran   - crossbow           (not learned) self defense       (not learned)
Expert    - brew               (not learned)

logic:

- helps priests level before getting flamestrike
- priests should not be teaching people self defense and crossbow shooting
- staves and scrolls aren't generally useful until later, but they should be mentorable

it's such a simple change, but it's a world of difference.

I thought the exact same thing when I leveled my priest....In fact I don't even have second attack trained at GM cause once I could train it - I didn't even need it. Couldn't have said it better myself.

And maybe throw dodge somewhere in there?
Kinda :\ that priests are the only class that don't get it.

Oh, I don't claim originality, but it's silly that nothing's changed yet. Persistence is king.

I would actually like to see less classes with dodge. Okay with making second attack available sooner. Not okay with the rest of it. Small changes are good, revamp seems unnecessary.

Second attack sooner... ehhhhhhhh. I'm not up for priests getting second attack as soon as rogues do.

Everything else is mainly cosmetic and not really a big deal.

Priests shouldn't get dodge either. They're like, the only class that doesn't, because they're so dang hard to kill anyways.

I am inclined to agree with you but there are some small things I don't feel comfortable with.

An example: Backstab cannot be shield blocked, so the only defense against it (other than certain spells) is dodge.

Removing dodge from say, paladins or sorcerors will bring back memories of the old days where 1-shot kills that worked 80% of the time were available to players, but just for rogues.

Sorcerors have spells to help them evade backstab already, dodge helps them. Paladins have the HP to survive unless they're an elf stabbed by a giant cold iron pigsticker.

Priests will most likely die without standing much of a chance to get away with it.

Less classes with dodge? I'm all for that if there were no single action win buttons in SK. So long as there are, I'd rather everyone have dodge so there is at least a factored chance to escape them.

(Disclaimer: I am not in any way suggesting that cleave backstab or any other high-damage opening attack should be nerfed.)

I agree with everything in the first post.

Staves and Scrolls cant be used until higher levels so why not make them learned at higher levels.

The higher level you are compared to the skill level, the easier you master it. Kindly keep staves and scrolls at amateur, please.

Clerics shouldn't be getting second attack sooner than melee-focused classes. I can see both shamans and priests getting it at Apprentice, to speed levelling before they get good spells for the purpose.

Priests get crossbow primarily to get a distance attack prior to flamestrike. No reason on earth to delay it to veteran. If you don't want to mentor or use a skill, just don't learn it.

Self-defense is pretty useless on a priest, but I see no RP violation in a priest of Sargas teaching bare-knuckle boxing. Again, don't learn it if it doesn't match your RP.
