This is just my own opinions on how it works since we do know that speed is a constant. The randomization element is most likely not controllable by anyone. Also, it is most likely the same for all attack checks. No matter the weapon.

Sure, the fact that there would be a randomization event occuring though, means that even if speed is a constant, through the other checks thrown in against it, there is in theory a min/max roll. Which would be what I'm talking about. Just with a slight twist.

I understand, I just think it is enough of a twist such that it is technically different.

No need to concede. This is just my educated opinion based on my perceptions. So, my whole thing is based off of assumptions. I see your point also and I just think it is just one times where people perceive things differently.

I know, I unlike most people on the forums have no problem in recognizing an equally viable alternative to one I have proposed. So even if I do not agree with something, which isn't the case here, you presented something equally plausible, I don't feel compelled to pointlessly argue against an equally good point. :)

Maybe weapons that have reach get a bonus to speed when used at reach, not just a decrease to speed when used upfront. That would explain why b-spears are faster. Still I think its a bit ridiculous that the two weapons compare the same and don't attack at the same speed.

So, they're the same speed as battle-spears, and yet you can get 5 attacks with a battle-spear and haste+fury/specialize, yet only four with a no-dachi.
