Seems there are alot of players who dont play scouts, and/or don't like them.

I have never played a scout, but I don't think they need this buff.

Granted this skill would have it's limitations. If it failed, you would end up in a prone status for some time and possible suffer slight damage similar to trip or bash. Not to mention you would not be able to vault from a position like F1 to B3 or M3. Your landing position would have to be one space away.

I have played a few scouts over the years and it is not that I think they need a buff like this, but it would be nice. I just see it a bit odd that one cannot dismount during combat. Why not? It is easy to just say "play a bard" (btw my last character was a GM bard) or "just go into battle dismounted". What if you are the one being attacked in the middle of travelling or you're ambushed (so to speak, not necessarily the actual skill) and you are stuck mounted. Many skills and techniques, depending on your class, alignment and affiliation, might then be useless to one stuck on a mount.

Granted I see the advantage this poses to the attacker. Nevertheless, I think it is a bit weird that someone cannot dismount in mid-combat. I do not see it as something all that impossible.

That was the only point to this thread :D.

I have to agree with this, mainly because in most MUDs I've played, mounted combat is rightfully considered a skill unto itself. Rightfully, because staying on a horse (I use this as an example because I've actually ridden a horse and not, say... a dragon :P) isn't as easy as it sounds. If somebody were riding a horse, and someone comes at you in an attack, and you don't have the skill necessary, there's a fine chance that you're not going to be doing any attacking whatsoever if you actually manage to stay on the horse... and more likely, you're going to get knocked off onto your heiney and risk getting trampled by an animal that likely wasn't made for combat in the first place.

Of course, that's playing the utter realism card, but ultimately I think you're right. Being stuck on a horse is just plain weird. Have them get knocked off, take some trample damage and a prone state, then back to plain old combat.
