If I remember correctly, I think it's a portion of what you have in the bank goes to the Trib.

You're not being "let off," you're being forced to serve the punishment for your crime. If they couldn't find the money when a bank robber was arrested, he'd probably be more likely to get the maximum sentence. If he turned it over, he might have that sentence reduced.

This part I agree with. I've made several posts suggesting/ agreeing with how deathmark/banishment could be put back fully in the hands of players without making life hell for criminals.

I just don't see this (the banishment solution) as necessarily being linked with criminals wanting to avoid having their stuff confiscated. I find no inherent RP violation with the "bury-and-plea" approach.

I like how Achernar's views change within 3 months so much.

Then again, I'm not the one who starts this thread so he can say anything just to oppose my opinion. :P

I guess that makes every player on Sk a cheater.

But I still have to point out... Murder is not ok kids.

Not every player drops their eq before they turn themselves in. Maybe a large number do, but a large number also cheat in other ways - it doesn't legitimize their actions.

I have asked for and paid for pardons on my current character twice already. Yes, I could spend 20 minutes afk and scoop up my eq right after, but I am not a cheater.

Only time I've sat in jail was after turning Kowin to a statue, and I had just returned to life and he brought guards from the north to my kingdom.

I like Alshain's idea. I turned myself in the other day, avoiding cheating. Little did I know that stupid laws of Ayamao would take ALL me EQ for a single NPC kill.

Alshain's idea fails actually, because it's so easy to twink it. There are numerous champ+ lvl items that are quite common and quite useless. Skins come to mind first of all. Someone might just collect 20 of these items, turn himself in, get confiscated what the game recognises as a high lvl full EQ suit and then instantly get out with no days in prison, get back his things and walk freely in said kingdom.

If Dark-Avenger ever becomes an immortal of this game, 'twinks' and whatever will be reduced to almost zilch. Similar situation when almosteligible/Reina/Ben was an immortal.

Scary.

None of it is cheating, but is lame. If I saw a situation where someone planned to hide their stuff and did so, they might find the stuff was not there when they returned.

No, it's cheating. Whether the immortals decide to punish this cheating is up to them, but it's still cheating.

There's no rule that says its cheating. I'd fix the jail system if I could, but that is a code thing. Talk to Dulrik.

Then all those who use OOC info with each character to know where to find things are also cheating, I don't think anyone is innocent of that. Even yourself is quite guilty of that crime.
