Back then backstab was way more devastating that what it is now, and I still consider it an overpowered skill with a pigsticker or even a good straight dagger.
Back then, even the spider ritual dagger was more devastating than a pigsticker today. And I can name quite a few more weapons. So imagine what today's builders can do if that returns.
Not to mention how funny it is that you could backstab with maces, with greatswords etc etc.
PS: Gotta love the flaming in gameplay. I'll refrain from calling you anything, I'll just suggest you to go look at your wife and weep in despair.
They can't do anything we don't allow them to, that's the key thing you don't understand. I used the finely crafted blade as an example because it was the gold standard. Do you see anything on the level of it? Not really. Also, back then backstab was unable to go through stone skin, so it's extremely unlikely that you'd see a huge uptick in crazy damage backstabbing weapons.
If someone makes the finely-crafted blade part two, then we can all flame that imm a bit until the staff gets the idea and changes that one weapon. Right now if a weapon is overpowered, or underpowered, it's either going to sit completely unused, or it's going to get overused until the point that it and every weapon that shows a stark advantage gets wimped into oblivion six to nine months after it shows itself to be an issue.
More people able to assist in balancing on a regular basis allows smaller balancing tweaks to be made on a more regular basis.
And I'll just look at my wife and grin that even someone that isn't a real tactics focused player still has a better understanding of why the old weapons system was better that you do.
Then again, what else could be expected from the guy who announced he was multiplaying on the forums, or the guy who got ganked by the mentor system.
