I mean I personally killed one with a half dozen wraiths just using bs/dual bs. They are kinda garbage really.
DUUURHHHHHHH! And if the necro used a weak mirror image scroll, a stone skin potion, or just position a wraith (with counterstrike, I remind you) behind him? That you got one by using backstab, which rawkills every caster class isn't really a testament to the class' power. Especially if they do nothing to avoid it.

Pet, scout, paladin formation. There was no way they could kill the sanced pet before my bogs killed the necro.
Uh, so ... a necro couldn't kill a paladin and a scout together? Two of the most devastating classes against a necro? That's a .. uhm ... surprise? That you have to use examples of groups against a necro testifies to their power.

Between holy word, bog, and bs/dual bs there is no possible way for a necromancer to fight any balanced group. You have a priest and a sanced merc you can beat a necro with holy words. You have a rogue with an ethereal scroll he can beat a necromancer. You have a paladin with a pet and or law NPC he can rape a necro. It's just so easy to foil the class. I'll take a non delf sorc and a charm over a necro any day.
A rogue, well, I've already answered that. A paladin with a pet is fodder for a necro who knows his stuff, a paladin with a pet and a lawmob is tricky business and will most likely be a 50/50 situation - their direct counter is a 50/50 only with a lawmob, yeah, necros suck. And even then, paladins have no way of landing the kill if the necro bothers to pick a single, unlimited, store-bought wand up - or failing that, have someone scribe etherealform!
In essence, necromancers are tremendously powerful, and if played right, practically every single player on the mud who went up against one alone would either be running for his life or die.
