XP per quest was already taking account of the level of the quest. Quest rewards will continue to be tweaked as we observe the new changes.

Discovery experience was already taking account of the level of the area. I don't have any specific plans to tweak this right now.

Discovery experience is great. The thing I did most recently was go through to Veteran and focus on just discovering places every time I checked the area command. With high charisma being a factor too, I would average 1/4 to 1/2 a level just by discovering a new area of the appropriate level. People who decide to explore at the early levels can easily get 2-5 levels of really easy experience without any issues.

Leveling is by far the biggest drawback to this game. The playerbase being a close second.

And so what if people can level to GM in less than 80 hours, we are here to have fun. And so what if people delete after playing only 2 months with the same char? Sometimes Dulrik seems to miss the point, that fun is the most important thing here.

If this was my MUD, I would make areas so people could level to GM in around 60 hours so they could spend a lot of time exploring and RP and have fun. Furthermore, I would add a lot more unique items to the games and make containers/people able to have less items in their inventory/bags. Problem solved. Fun attained.

What about the actual reward system ("You have been enlightened..." itself? Was that tick (%agish) based or actual (number) based?
I've also completed a couple of quests post change in areas I was using to level where I was not too overly familiar and did not notice a significant (tick) amount of xp. Granted I could have been at the fringes somehow.

Post change, I went exploring to a place I consider leveling areas (easy kills --> much more powerful) and did not get the xp for them. (I got the discovery message, not the experience one). That's what prompted this portion of the post.

I'll keep it down for a bit and document things directly.

Thanks for the time.

What you really have to analyze is how much fun people really have? They have a high turnover rate for a reason. They got frustrated because the PK cycle (which actually is accelerated by shorter lived characters) and delete. So, on top of a growing PK cycle, people come and go so fast that it's nearly impossible to let an RP enmity/friendship grow to something that's rich and full of life. Some of my best RP experiences come from players who have been around for months, not just a few weeks. I may not like all the changes in this update, but added difficulty in leveling isn't one of my biggest ones. ...

They are already based on percentage of XP needed to level.

Quests are not guaranteed to give you a tick. They are just set up to provide more XP as the quest's level increases.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. You got 0 XP when killing anything?

She didn't see the "you gain some worthwhile experience" message when discovering a new area in her level range.

There have always been two situations where you won't always gain XP when discovering an area:

You can't be less than three status levels lower than the lowest level of the area. That would rarely bite anyone unless you are determined to explore the Desert Spire as a Journeyman.

You also can't be higher than the average level of the area. So if you waited until GM to explore the Desert Spire, you've waited too long. I'd assume this is the category that you fell into.

Again, this isn't a change. It's been like this since we added discovery XP.
