The assumption that the victim was crying and this crying evoked a response is mistaken. We do snoop players and watch their logins and playerkilling actions. This doesn't mean a victim wasn't crying. I did not respond when a victim cried out. We responded after a repeated situation not specific to one victim had been noticed. This was done after those specific instances began forming a pattern. Discussion ensued. Changes have been made. That we're working on the issue should be apparent. I'm not sure what else we should have done in the situation, except nothing. Nothing isn't a solution. I thank jimbo for recognizing that the comprehensive response of our always improving staff is generally better than in the past. Your feedback helps.

I do realize what I said may seem like a contradiction. However, as Achernar mentioned directly above, there is more information than stated here, and the general sentiments are based off assumptions that I believe are inaccurate.

Maybe it's just me, but I think we're ALL confused on the 'situation.'

What was it -exactly- that was wrong here? Was it not enough RP going on with the charmees?

Can you point out a series of specific instances? If it's xxx hammer, xxx keeper, xxx hammer, xxx keeper kept getting charmed, junk looted, etc. Well, how is that any different than bregindor gating into menegroth, bashing turon with 5, looting him, and wording without a word? Or any of the other various instances.

I'm just curious, seriously, as is everyone else. No one really understands what is 'being done wrong'.

We all know charm is silly, but what is being done wrong now? Are you stating there is no Rp being done with these charms?

Or what? Please clarify what violations are occurring that warrant a 'talking to' or, as was put to me, access to the spell removed.

I have an idea for something that that you should have done in this situation: you could apologize to a player who acted no differently from many many others before him, and who in no way shape or form broke the rules. Aldric and Ealuriel come to mind as two very big examples of utilizing charm offensively a -lot-, yet they were never spoken to.

You saying that you're not interested in apologizing because "innocent people get sent to hell all the time" and because "Threats of punishment are what we do. Immortals. I'm fine with you gone. I just think you're overreacting." Yet at the same time you think that you have been "reasonable the whole time." That's a very poor way to show respect to the player-base.

Your actions as an IMM are always closely scrutinized by the players, and being able to admit when you made a mistake, however rightly you may have felt it was at the time, or however poorly the other person may have taken it, would be pretty encouraging towards the rest of the pbase.

oh snap hi thran

you always deliver

Achernar I know you have a lot of work on your hands already, or maybe another immortal or mortal alike can take up this task

for anyone who plays World of Warcraft, they may be familiar with a site called MMO-Champion, what does this site do?

see WoW has a huge forum with many sections and occasionally they get these 'blue post' responses from admins and developers but because the forums are so fast, these responses while very important, get lost in them

I have been meaning to compile a list of ongoing Dulrik/immortal responses but I don't have the time, maybe one of you could do it!

it would include possible coming changes, bug fixes, corrections on game mechanics, such as recently Dulrik pointed out that magic resistance is checked before saves, and so on

Yet again. I RP'd my charms -a lot-. I'm not sure Vaalim has ever RP'd a charm for more than 5 minutes. That's the difference Edoras. Now god damn, get off Thran's [REDACTED].

Just because Vaalim isn't a diabolic freak who likes to play patty-cake with his food doesn't make him a poor RPer. He's actually a consistent character, it's just that he's much more famous for his killing sprees.
That said, I don't like his playstyle as in general he doesn't extend much OOC courtesy, whereas I prefer to.

More importantly, though, I'm not interested in the rules being subjective depending on how popular the player is. You see no problem with "Vaalim is a jerk, he deserves to be punished" whereas I would much rather everyone be treated according to the rules, because opinions are subjective.

So, the issue is I played a dogmatic character properly and didn't play an evil character as a grey?

Well, hot damn!

I guess so.

Hell, the person I even charmed tried to have himself summoned away. I guess that's great RP too!

You passively accept summoning spells.

I mean holy good god. What is going on, folks? Seriously. If I had 'rped' with him before he got taken out by the law (which the GAME instituted, not me), he'd have been summoned away by his buddies.

This just looks very bad on you all atm.
