Very probably tied to the item you repaired, and perhaps also the local economy?

That item is worth no more than 3.5 platinum via the identify spell. Repairs sometimes cost slightly more than the full "value" of the item, so say they would have been 5 platinum.

Are you saying the local economy can have more than a 16X effect on item prices? And that's not including that the cost was probably reduced via haggle.

Seems like a bug to me. If not, this "feature" ought to be toned down a bit!

When something is (damaged), the tailor or blacksmith pretty much has to rebuild the whole thing and it gets very expensive. If you repair your items before they are almost (broken), then it won't cost as much. I believe Dulrik's cost formula is somewhat exponential for the different degrees of damage to your items.

Yeah, broken or damaged items cost a crapton to repair regardless of economic status.

Regardless I've never seen something repaired cost 8 obsidian, ever. I don't think I've ever even gotten as high as 1 obsidian, that includes GM rare damaged items.

Aren't prices tied to charisma, on some level?

I'm not implying anything... honest...

Only haggling is. Not prices per se.

You cannot repair broken items. At least I do not believe you can. I think with the right economic conditions and a high end level item that is (damaged) this price can happen.
