so basically if we went with your idea the only i win spell would in fact be enchant armor just saying

the whole thing is very strange and only made stranger because we don't really know how any of it works we are just putting together things and hoping it works sort of like ancient metallurgists praying that the spirit of mars guides their ferrous materials to react positively with some randomly obtained vitriol

Not really, no.

I am defining "I win" spells as those for which if someone lands them on you, you are pretty much 100% hosed without outside help. Even if you broadened that to include defensive spells that made you invulnerable, enchant armor would be far from that.

oh sorry

basically how i read what you said was that there are two kind of spells the damage dealios and the save of haha you lose spells and that people massively enchant to really reliably save against haha you lose beware the queen of spades kind of spells which make your typical blue collar man spells never really do anything and makes them totally useless so instead of making enchant go faster you should instead rework the save or lose spells but then that would still let your mother and father wife and friends laugh in your face with their enchanted armor facing your long nights impossible odds 1d6 per caster level everyman spells so the problem turns the ubercharge versus oneshotwonder race into damage versus defenses but art and the means to overcome obtainable extreme defense values are much more rarely seen and expensive so rock and paper don't cost the same so you'd see scissors having a predictably unbalanced time you know what i mean?

ps the problem would have nothing to do with scissors right i wanted to just point out that the issue would be that scissors circumstance would be beyond its control, it would need control we all need control in that sense but the mechanics hide behind a mask so no one else can see its true identity

The damage was laughable at best. Granted I was mentor at the time and they were GM, but still I didn't expect the damage to be mitigated -that- much.

Mentor to GM makes a huge difference both in save DC and damage, and enchantments don't matter at all for magma (except reflex).

Also, my idea for making enchant armor targetable is not to just make it targetable and do nothing to the success/failure chance, that would be way too easy: My idea was to make it much easier to get a suit with 50 targeted enchants (Read: MP and will/fort), while just as difficult to make a suit with 100+ useful enchants. If your arch-enemy is a necro and you just want fortitude on your gear, it's annoying as all get out to have someone else enchant 10 pieces of armor and end up with only 10 extra fort out of it because the system is so flipping random.

Enchant armor makes people want to stop playing the game because it's A) Boring and B) unpredictable. Fixing at least one of these things would be nice, and giving enchant to multiple classes doesn't make it any less boring or unpredictable.

whenever there out in the darkness a player has to invoke the law of large numbers to find their reward like stars in their multitudes scarce to be counted you wind up going like who wants to enchant forever and it looks as though you're letting go and if its real you don't even want to know, the enchants are just so crazy random and the obligations so silly that its all ending and you stop pretending who you are

cast 'enchant armor' bracers willpower

how is that a bad idea? if the implementor wants some roll the bones then it should be like rolling slots and you automatically get a full combo of enchantments because fading does nothing but fade people out, its not a false alarm or a test, its something I doubt I'll get much disagreement with you could just as easily have the interesting chance game without the now obligatory timesink

turon agrees with me enchant armor is a blight on characters and enchanting is a blight on gameplay but a necessary element to embrace competitive gameplay so it in essence becomes a [blink]barrier[/blink]

For as long as I've been following these boards some people have been saying that enchanting makes "people" stop wanting to play - but so I'm sure does dying, or people failing to conform to some rp someone wants to do, or Jurithiel (lol), or lots of other things that are more pet peeve than game breaking problems. What about enchanting makes you guys as posters of these topics so sure that it's a game-wide problem and not a pet peeve?

let me spell it for you

f is for friends who do stuff together
u is for u + me
n is for NO, SITTING IN YOUR CABAL HQ SPAMMING ENCHANT IDENTIFY AND SLEEP IS NOT ANY OF THESE AT ALL DOWN HERE IN THE DEEP BLUE SEAAAAA

ps read my earlier posts and ardiths and turons and syns we all say the same thing quite elogently which means eloquent and elegant and your question is already answered but your cynicism is good because this should be scrutinized much like a diamond is only recognized after withstanding continual pressures or something like that roll with me on this.

This would provide more options to people instead of delegating priests and sorcerors to indentured servant status.

Priests and sorcerers can always say no if they do not want to enchant. They can charge if it suits their RP or alignment. Just because they have the ability to enchant does not mean they have to.

Exactly, thats why it would be better for more classes can enchant. If they say no, oh look...you're screwed with no enchants. Then you have to find someone else to enchant, ones that are already "Servant status" because they have to enchant for everyone. :-?

At least give it to warlock/shaman, IMO. Grant Warlock the identify spell as well and and take voodoo away from shamans then that'd balance them both out a bit.
