Real names are allowed, there were some restrictions that were brought up in Benjamin's afterlife, something like popular names within the last 400 years or somesuch.

Since you don't want to be picked on, I'll not point out your mistakes beyond this:

This thread was originally intended for Immortal attention and for whomever is responsible for these issues to step up and say, "I'm the person who handles naming issues, please come to me if you have any questions or concerns about naming issues. If I cannot handle your issue, please see the following immortal and they should be able to resolve your issue." It wasn't intended for a grep lecture about how I was supposed to follow the proper channels. I'm following them exactly as they're intended.

If you didn't want people to reply to your post, you shoulda written a PM then. Just sayin'.

Or try an e-mail. You know, like this:

To Whom It May Concern:

First of all, I found your e-mails via the WIZLIST command in-game. I hope this e-mail has reached the right people! Feel free to forward it if it has not.

I enjoy the Shattered Kingdoms experience. Adventuring in a fantasy world where roleplay and tactics collide is a wondrous leisure activity I feel blessed to participate in. You all have put together a GREAT game, and I love the unique, total immersion experience!

However, I have found that it sometimes does not happen as well as I think it is intended. There have been many times when characters with questionable names keep them, and some of these have even become characters of great renown and respect in the game community. Wouldn't it be best if the exemplars of great playing also set a high standard for name selection?

I know in the past that many characters have been asked to change their names, so I assume it is something you all take seriously. I was wondering if there was a specific immortal in particular who was responsible for judging names and handling reports of poor character name choices? I would like to make sure I communicate with the right person!

If there is no one immortal staff member with this responsibility, perhaps delegating this to one person would help make sure it is enforced more universally?

Thanks again for all the time you put into this game in order for me to be able to put time into it. Feel free to reply to this e-mail if you'd like to ask me any specifics or point me in the right direction, but I think it might be best if the identity of the name police was posted on the forums, or perhaps even in the wizlist!

Sincerely,

Dayamin

Ja, too many people complain on the forums when it should be addressed to some Imm instead I think. Usually posts like this just get railroaded and turn into smear campaigns. And btw there is also an Alex in the game, so what.

Dayamin,

Thank you for your feedback. I was the one that changed your name. In my experiences, any reference to Knights of the Old Republic is usually referred to as KotOR. While this situation was purely coincidental, I still felt a better name could be chosen.

Admittedly, determining if a name is a violation of the rules is fundamentally a judgment based off the IMM who sees the name. (Side note: There are not many clear-cut standards to determine a name violation, and I honestly don't think there should be. If steps were taken to create clear-cut rules, I think names would still slip by.) My judgments are based off the knowledge and experiences I have with the fantasy/gaming cultures. If a name distracts me from SK, I will attempt to work with the player to change it. As Achernar indirectly said, no single IMM will catch every name, because no single person touches every game completely. As such, my limited experiences will not allow me to be perfectly consistent. A name like Grimwin means nothing to me, purely because I have little experience with World of Warcraft. And while I did see Bakooza, I decided to leave it for the time being to get a second opinion. Unless I am forgetting part of the rules, it's not a direct name violation per-say. It's certainly a poor choice of names, but you may be surprised how many of these poor choices don't get far and delete themselves.

Pertaining your other question, a prayer is likely the best way to pass this information to us. We always welcome these suggestions. After all we certainly have better things to do than to Google every characters name on the who list.

Thanks. It's cool, I just didn't want to feel targeted somehow. There's a significant shroud of mystery when it comes to OOC influence on the powers that be around here, and I really like SK for what it's intended to be. I have a tendency to follow the rules pretty strictly for the sake of the overall game experience. I'd like to see more people get into SK and help keep it going for 10+ years more. It's a pretty rare gem.

Even Immortals get Helled when their characters don't write descriptions or set adjectives. Then we all laugh and fix the problem. I do the same with players when they're receptive enough. Other times it doesn't go so well though I wish it might.
