The character is just a simple shapeshifter who dons altar egos based on whatever they polymorph into and that's it. Is it honestly that hard just to go along with the flow and pretend that you don't know that it's a poly'd character simply because it's a nonplayable race? This is getting ridiculous.
Well, when people see ludacris or suspicious things they suspect a commonplace spell to be the reason, and not an extraplanar invasion or the like. Unless people are stupidly agressive though, this suspicion could surely be incorporated in your RP. Playing the different roles, even when people know that it is not your true (physical) appearance shouldn't staunt the possibilities it creates. I've played a very poly-heavy sorc myself, and I found it to be tons of fun, even when polying into seraphs and elementals.
Even without poly, changing mannerism/speech/language can be immensely effective.
