I know the astral boards get used and sometimes read, but I would like to see a mail system so that a person can write and mail a letter to another character in game for various reasons including standing orders of a tribunal in the case of an absent leader or religious person in some cases. And other RP associated things.

Thoughts?

Just use the noteboards and write the note directly to said person. If they wanna read it they'll check the boards.

Exactly. You can't know if the recipient will care to read the public boards. With a mail system you can have notifications upon new e-mail and you can reply to the sender. Also, perhaps you can also know if the recipient has received indeed your mail or not.

Yeah, honestly I never read the astral boards. Too much crap and useless stuff on there. A mailing system would be nice if it could be implemented, because if someone ever sent one of my characters a letter on the astral board i'd never know due to ignoring the boards. It'd be easier to tell if you got mail, it'd be easier to shift through it all, reply, etc.

I wish the whole 'writing' system could be overhauled. I've only written 1 or 2 notes. In 8+ years of playing. Because the process of 'writing' them is a pain in the [REDACTED].

You guys know you can specify a name in the "note to" part of writing a note, right? Also that every (I think every) tribunal and cabal has it's own message board independent of the city board, and most religions have their own boards too.

Get your followers to read them!

Although some kind of indication that someone wrote a message addressed to you specifically would be a useful reminder. Perhaps a check at login for unread messages with your name in the to field and an echo along the line of " You have a message from <writer> on <board name>".

How would you propose they would read said notes sent through a mail system? Expect them to check their mail every time they log on, if so then why couldn't they just check the note boards? I can just see the mail system being a waste and end up the same as the noteboards and people then wanting their characters to carry a android phone to check for an e-mail :)

EDIT:

Think the Astral watcher guy would inform you if you have a note on the astral board posted directly to you.

Sure, why not? This happens after MOTD:

The Astral Watcher tells you 'You have a message from <writer> on <board name>'

Then you go to view the message and the Astral watched ganks you....

Also think if this happens the Astral watcher should speak God tongue, so a certain group couldn't use this tactic to gank someone.
