Cloth was supposed to get the strongest spells + remove compulsion, and then light just strong spells, last I checked.

Yeah, and then a lot of the cloth spells were released and are absolutely terribad (Meissa, anyone?).

Balance is [REDACTED]. Priest is a terrible class. Sure it has a lot of utility going for it, but outside of being a brew/rez/enchant [REDACTED], you really need to rely on others to get anything done for everything.

What you mean the class that was recommended to me to play as my first character, isn't going to own the world? Ah that stinks!

More seriously:

Maybe not in line with balancing the class, but I've always thought that the leader of a religion ought to be able to summon one or two religious body guard NPCs. (I doubt the pope is even allowed to go pee by himself) But then I got to thinking, oh they could have other cabal / tribunal powers that would unbalance that idea.

Maybe a high level priest would have the ability to summon a bodyguard type NPC, dunno.

As for the extra priest spells, I have no idea of them except for the one that I've seen so far. I cannot really comment on the rest.

I do kind of like the idea of only the highest level priest getting that perk though. In real life the pope get's body guards, but when's the last time you saw the local vicar with men in black, holding assault weapons around him.

Note, while I do believe cloth priest spells needs to be buffed, we don't need more NPC wars.

Could have an Avatar like spell at the top tier of their spell list.

The spell could either summon a faith specific NPC to aid the priest, or transform the priest into an Avatar of their God for a short duration, increasing the power of specific spells, increasing stats, immunities, durability, damage, speed, etc. Just have to design the Avatars buffs accordingly to match the God you follow. Hell can even add additional spells and or skills.

Here's another idea:

A Top level Skill (not spell)

That allows for:

Attack to not break sanctuary
Lowers the mental taxation of spells

This would be a skill so it wouldn't work 100% of the time until it's mastered. Tic by Tic it's determined, meaning that a priest could become overburdened mid-fight if they are overtaxing themselves relying on this. Or maybe they try to initiate an attack and loose sanctuary unexpectedly.

Obviously once mastered they'd be able to do more than a priest that just leveled.

Make there a very small percentage chance of skill improvement.

No, priests are fine and do not need any new spells (religious or otherwise). They got the better end of the enchant changes recently, since consecrate is far superior to enchant. Move along, nothing to see here.

I agree that priests are fine. But what do you meant they got the better end of enchant/concecrate? Just because they're the ones who got AP as the armor enchant?

In general, I find the enchant item options better than the consecrate item options. And the enchant/consecrate weapon options pretty much equal (speed vs. damage). Consecrate is definitely better for armor, though, given that AP>MR.

Fin, while I agree with you on that point, that does not make the priest anything more than an even more popular enchantb*cough*. it doesn't really add to the class 'fun factor', it just makes priests the 'dirty job that someone has to do'.

That said, I like priests as a class. I don't think they're underpowered. A priest with no affiliation might be a bit lame but put a priest in almost any cabal/tribunal and the game really opens up for him.

That said, the point of this thread wasn't really to see if priests need a fix as a class.
Its that certain spells and/or the benefit of heavy armor is making certain religions much more popular than others, to the point where the decision to join a religion is no longer the RP choice, but a calculated decision based on game mechanics. Its not wrong, per se, its just sad to see.
