I think we should let the crazy train ride and see how far down the rabbit hole ardith actually fell. This is hilarious.

I think a very simple solution to hoarding would be to stop flagging items as limited or unique.
If -everybody- can have it, then there is no need to hoard it. The difficulty of getting there is the only thing that matters. Which means, if you're good at pve go get it and if you're not, bash the face of someone who is and pvp-steal it from them.

This. This. So much of this. I'd be all for this, even if it meant toning the enchantments on some things down about 10% so it wouldn't be gamebreaking.

Edit to add:

On another game, they used a false OOC forced rarity on items it made no sense for as well that also did neat scripted things, like... wrist razors that gave you an extra attack per round and ignored armor, charged about 100 times what they should cost, and only allowed 2 of them in a game with 300 players. The ultimate solution was they just totally removed the script from the item and let everyone have it. My thing is... go ahead and keep the script/enchantment, just maybe dial it back a little, and still let those who can get/keep it.... get, and keep, it.

Hoarding items in a Cabal HQ or other restricted area for yourself or another specific character to pick up at a later point is considered an attempt to circumvent the anti-hoarding code. If you no longer need an item and are leaving it in the HQ for any cabal mates to pick up and do with as they please that is fine, however telling other characters that items are saved for a specific character and to leave them alone is not acceptable.

I don't think this is enforceable. If people want to leave gear for a SPECIFIC character, they will likely just hit up that specific person on YIM, or email, or PM or some other out-of-game means and tell them about the gear they stashed for them.

It is also essentially a ban on language. According to what you've written, it seems like I could just say over cabal channels, "I left all that stuff there for ANYONE who needs heavy armor and is specialized in <whatever weapon>." Of course, we'd all know who I was talking about, but I didn't specifically mention them so that seems like it would be legal, according to what you've written.

Furthermore, it puts undue stress on the immortals who really want to catch hoarders. Are you really going to go through all these previous cabal chats to see if someone said, "Don't touch that stuff, I left it there for Frank." To me, leaving stuff in your cabal HQ for your previously looted comrades is pretty standard stuff, and it always has been.

This still needs clarification if it is something we want to stick with indefinitely.

From my understanding, you can leave gear in the HQ and you can even designate that it is for Joe Bob. However, if Billy Bob shows up first and takes the armor then you are not allowed to threaten him with tarnish and/or removal from the cabal. This shouldn't create much work for the staff, since they don't need to actively monitor anything. They only have to respond to a complaint from Billy Bob if he gets tarnished or kicked from his cabal.

I think you and I both know that if a leader wants to tarnish someone, they will do it. If they are actually tarnishing for an illegal reason, they'll come up with a legal reason. Its just like dealing with cops. You may not have actually been speeding, but you're getting a ticket for something...

If you want to attempt to dupe the staff and use a thinly-veiled rationalization to get around this policy, I suppose you can try. I really wouldn't want to be that that guy that Durlik uses as an example for the rest of the game, though.

All I am saying is that the window for abuse is left wide open with this policy. I'm not saying that I am going to purposefully violate it out of spite or anything like that. I am expressing concern about a policy that doesn't make sense because of a real inability to actually enforce it in any meaningful way.

This is a terrible analogy. You still have to go to court. Getting a speeding ticket ain't no thing.

Thread necromancy as I catch back up:

I think the hard-coded limitations are as far as anything or anyone needs to go with the dehoarding hard-lining. They're generally solid changes, but after a certain point you need to stop laying down arbitrary limitations.

I think the limitation on getting items after being dehoarded is incredibly counter-intuitive to the game's original charm of not being told you can't do something, and it's the only thing about the code I don't agree with. A week is a very long time, and I'm sad there's people who think that's cool. The preventative measure of stopping a midnight-thirty re-gear raid is unfortunately necessary thanks to (as always) the few who ruin it for everyone, but for a whole week? Meh.

More along the lines of this thread, stating more caveats to the de-hoarding rule is just a bit much. The rule is incredibly clear, yet allows incredible interpretation by the staff for enforcement. If you don't like a situation and think it doesn't follow the rules, then just enforce it as an imm. Go down there and just eat the gear and be done with it. Obviously that's outrageous, but you get the idea. There's no getting around the inherent subjectivity of a volunteer staff's rule enforcement, might as well embrace it and just enforce it instead of bogging everyone down with caveats and stipulations.

I'd like a clarification for this rule.

Line 1 states:

My question is this:
There are a number of quests in game that require you to spend some time dead. Is leaving your own, personal, currently used things in a Cabal HQ considered an attempt to bypass the anti-hoarding code?
