Picture the guy who's like 'Hey, come with me on a suicide mission', vs the William Wallace 'They may take our lives, but they'll never take... our freedom' etc, that's how I picture it. One is... well... a heck of a lot more likely to get people to get behind you and line up to let you possibly end their lives.

Is there a way we could eliminate the Taslamar bounty hunter's wear all spam whenever the enter the room? It's unneeded and distracting.

I think the ability to order guards should be changed from one's charisma level to one's level. Charisma is already factored in when considering lag and that's fine. What I can't see is a guard not listening to the leader of their faction just because he's not charismatic.

The best counter-point to this would be that a GM or near GM level guard is on a similar rank as you, even as the GM Justiciar or Captain or whatever rank you possess. Think about it. Gervais has seen countless numbers of Justiciars and Captains come and go, and he'll more than likely outlive whoever the Justiciar or Captain is now. If -anything-, that guy ought to be able to pull rank on whoever he wants.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that maybe tribs with GM level guards ought to be glad that the charisma modifier exists on leadership, because if the charisma bonus didn't come into play then it would be impossible to order around GM level guards period.

Of course, the gameplay argument would be that dumping stats should never be totally free. All characters should lose -something- notable if they dump a stat completely. If charisma was taken away from leadership, then mercs, barbs, priests and shamans would lose even less from low-balling their charisma, which is already a pretty easy stat to dump anyway.

I have no idea why you would want to use charisma as a dump stat on a mercenary.

Yeah yeah, we get it, you love to spam retreat. My main point is that there are worse classes than mercs to dump charisma on.

Since most commands lag comparably to what you'd get with dumped charisma orders anyway -- we're talking about three seconds here or there tops, a mere round or two -- I would say that mercenary is probably the second-most charisma-dependent class. You simply cannot be an effective mercenary without sufficient charisma. Other classes, particularly those poorly-played as pet classes, can switch tacks or spare enchantments to deal with a low natural charisma.

If I were to tweak tribunals at all, it would be to remove all requirements from recruiting an NPC. Instead, a cost would be levied against the tribunal's bank account each time recruitment was used. This creates active costs for active skills, and it also provides leaders with a certain degree of oversight and information on how their resources are (or are not) being used. Better guards would simply cost more to recruit. This would also create a natural, mechanical series of consequences for tribunals recalcitrantly entrenched in losing battles.

Bards, Necromancers, Swashbucklers and hellions are all miles above mercs in terms of how important charisma is. Mercs use cha for rallying cry and retreat, and have no class features that involve ordering. The only classes clearly below them (in terms of usage for skills and need of order lag) are barbarians, shamans, rogues and paladins.

Intimidate is not as good as it used to be.

Having low cost on retreat, and higher success rate on rallying cry is more beneficial than anything else, I think.
