Figured I'd post my 2 cents since I played a Giant Hellion. They aren't bad actually and their mental state doesn't cripple them at all. A well built Hellion will have max stats and some points to spare anyways because of mods. Domination is the only problem spell at all. Mainly you have to have max int to cast / hold it. For safe measure I sat down just because a hard hit would cause you to lose control. You can't even cast cause light with it.

That being said, protection was easily held and still able to cast hellfire. Bashing is awesome and the cleaves were just absolutely hilarious. A great axe or battle axe (1 handed) wearing giant with a cleave does insane damage and it's a massive weapon which is nice for melee. A one handed weapon means you can have a shield and a Giant has enough con that they can actually, somewhat, decently tank. Nowhere near a merc / barb, but still protection and the usual buffs of sanc etc make them pretty beastly.

They aren't OP I'd say but they are fun to play if not interesting. Anyways I return to my lurking now. Have fun all.

I would d quest. Its just not a good option to spend tokens vs reincarnation if one had to choose between the two

As often as I hear vet players talk about how easy it is to level up, I don't know why any would complain about the XP loss associated with d-quest, BoL, Raise. You can reach GM and build up some buffer EXP to make the cost relatively negligible. A skilled vet player can do it relatively easily. Maybe if you're dying every day, but otherwise.... meh. :-? Have to spend a few hours or an extra day as a Champion again before re-attaining GM? Not really a big deal. Your competitiveness is hurt more by losing EQ than that loss of XP. I look at it as you can spend LP to buy a return to life, or you can spend XP to buy a return to life. Restocking XP is quicker and easier than restocking LP.

Even reincarnate, isn't universally that bad. At very low levels, it can be the fastest, easiest way back to life. It becomes more costly as you level up, as leveling gets harder, but when you're apprentice or journeyman or expert, if your char dies and you can't get one of the less costly means for returning to life, it's not earth-shattering to have to make up what was lost. It's about 1000x better than when reincarnate used to permanently consume 1 point of CON and Raise/BoL used to consume 1 full level of XP.

Allow me to drop a knowledge bomb on you since you sem unaware: Leveling in SK is firmly in the category of "not fun" and having to relevel once you spent your time getting there in the first point is even more not fun.

I respect the point you're making. But you are making a false extrapolation on my "assumptions".
Most of the complaining about death causing some hurt/discomfort/minor setback, however, has come from veteran players.
Most games have a setback associated with character death, or a limited number of character lives, etc.
Typically those that don't, tend to suck donkey cajones.

IMO, we have a pretty good death/life mechanic in SK that imposes loss on death, without it being too extreme of a drawback.
